The weather forecasters were predicting temperatures over 100 degrees for the weekend but that didn’t deter 12 teams for the CBAF Annual Shasta Tournament. As dawn broke, there was a hint of briskness and a gentle breeze blowing. Our God had blessed us with perfect conditions for what would be another beautiful day. After the normal safety reminders, rule highlights, an awesome prayer was led by Lee Banks and the National Anthem sung by Ken Stevens, the anglers began idling out to the 5 mph buoys. Once there, it seemed that each boat took off in a different direction heading for that “special spot”
After enduring the heat with only light winds, the boats returned with all anglers looking like they had had a blast! At the weigh in the bags kept coming with all teams but two having their 5 fish limit. Remarks from most indicated that the fish were ready and willing to take their offerings. Although there were a lot of small fish some got into a few “gooduns” which brought them to the top of the standings. Finishing in 3rd place was the team of Bob Lazzarini and Ted Tencati with just over 8 pounds. Finishing in 2nd place was Bryan McDermott and Chris Lasowski with 10.01 lbs. Winning the tournament was the team of Phil Clark and Ron Diacon who brought 11.39 lbs. to the scales. Their limit was anchored by the big fish of the tournament that weighed 3.13lbs. The 2nd big fish money was split between the 2nd and 3rd place teams when they both weighed fish that were exactly 2.54lbs.
Following the weigh in everyone made their way over to the Twin View Christian Church where all were treated to a great dinner hosted by Pastor Howard Johnson, Howard’s wife Mary and Son Ron. After dinner the awards were given out, Pastor Johnson gave us all a very inspirational message and final prayer led by our Leader Paul Baker. Although it was a long drive home, one could only think about the wonderful time and fellowship that was shared by all.
Special thanks go out to Lee Banks for all his help in coordinating everything in Redding, to Pastor Johnson and his family for opening the church and providing the meal and hospitality, to the local sponsors who provided the prizes for a raffle that sent everyone home with something. We cannot forget Bridge Bay Marina for allowing us to use their facilities.
