May 1-2 will mark the 4th annual CBAF Kid’s Bass Camp at Collins Lake. If your kids have participated before you know how excited they get about this event. If they have not, they are in for a special weekend. (See photos below!) This is a hands-on experience where boys and girls ages 8-13 have the opportunity to learn the basics of bass fishing from tournament anglers. This year the check-in will be on Saturday morning from 8-9:00 a.m. All day Saturday is devoted to workshops where they learn to tie knots, build real baits they can actually use the next day, learning how to cast, as well as boating safety. Saturday night is a time of singing around the camp fire and a special devotional time with a great Christian guest speaker.
Sunday is Tournament Day. Each camper will be partnered with a Pro, a tournament angler who will take the time to teach them and help them catch bass. Our goal is to make each camper feel special and loved. All of the kids really look forward to the parade of boats as the tournament anglers pull into camp Sunday morning.
Registration is limited to 50 campers and we fill up quickly. The cost per camper is $35.00. We must be very firm on the age requirements.

The CBAF kicked off the 2010 season with a great tournament at Lake McClure in the mother lode. 19 teams braved the rain and wind to support the “Keep Them Warm” tournament. Dozens of coats were donated by the bass fishermen to the Clothes Closet Ministry of the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church where they will be distributed to families who can use them this time of year. We appreciate the generosity of the many fishermen who brought these coats.
Fishing was great as the storm front moved through and by noon the rain gave way to a beautiful day. Fish were caught on some of the usual methods such as dart-heading, drop-shotting and jigs. But we were also introduced to the team of Mike Barnard and Gary Azevedo who won the event using a jig on a fly rod with an indicator. Their winning weight was 11.92 lbs with a big fish of 6.09. Their total check was $946.00. Dragging a Carolina rig with a brush hog brought second place money to Tony Bazzocco and Brandon Youngblood at 11.86 lbs and a big fish of 6.14 lbs for a check of $560.00. Finishing out the top three was the team of David Homen and Scott Summer whose bag totaled 8.67 lbs. netted them a check for $182.00.
Local support was generous as always for this event with prizes donated by Jigs Tackle, Sipes Marine, Bozsik’s Pizza and the Lumberyard Café and Brew. A new supporter, Kick Bass, provided a sample pack of boat cleaning products to each angler. We really appreciate everyone’s support.
The Lake Don Pedro church provided an outstanding meal for all those who attended. As always, the hospitality was awesome and the food was great and no one went away hungry.

CBAF AND DON PEDRO CHURCH
HOST “KEEP THEM WARM” BASS TOURNAMENT
The Christian Bass Anglers Fellowship in conjunction with the Lake Don Pedro Baptist Church will host the “Keep Them Warm” Bass tournament at Lake McClure on February 27, 2010. The CBAF, which also sponsors various charity tournaments such as the Toys For Troops Kids event and an annual Kids Bass Camp, hope to collect many coats to be distributed through the Clothes Closet Ministry at the Don Pedro Church. “We know there are people who may not have a warm coat to get them through this winter. The Bass fishing community has demonstrated their generosity in many ways before and this is another opportunity to let people know we really care.” said Paul Baker, President of the CBAF. All bass fishermen are encouraged to bring a new or lightly used coat to the event. You can register online at www.thecbaf.com or complete the flyer insert in this edition and mail it in. We pay back 80% on entry fees and 100% on team big fish. For more information you can check out the website or call 209-852-0157. You can also fax your registration to 209-852-0159.
